Dear Scouts and Scouters of the Jersey Shore Council,
As September 11th approaches, we would like to share with you a way to honor our country and the heroes who served it on that horrific day. Our youth need to understand and remember what happened on September 11, 2001, when terrorists attacked our country. This is a terrific opportunity for engagement that reaches youth in their world via the communication tools they use.
All you need to do is visit
www.scoutsurge911.org
for details and suggestions.
Scout Surge 9/11 is a great activity to which youth can collectively connect as they create their own ideas and social networks to commemorate and remember one of the most enduring human experiences in American history. Plus, it's a great opportunity to stay connected after the jamboree in a way that has profound meaning and relevance to our nation.

Youth safety is the No. 1 concern of the BSA. To increase awareness of this societal problem and to create even greater barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting, the Boy Scouts of America is implementing several important changes to further enhance its Youth Protection policies:
Effective June 1, 2010:
- Youth Protection Training is required for all registered volunteers.
- New leaders are required to take Youth Protection Training before they submit their application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins.
- Youth Protection Training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer's Youth Protection Training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.
Please click here for steps to ensure these policies are fully implemented. If you have any questions please feel free to contact your District Executive.

Boy Scouts of America — Jersey Shore Council
Teaching leadership & values while providing recreational activities for children of all ages
Boy Scouts of America - Jersey Shore Council, headquartered in Toms River and Egg Harbor Township, serves more than 15,000 young people in four Jersey Shore counties: Atlantic, Burlington, Ocean, and Ocean City in Cape May County. It is among the largest youth serving organizations in the state of New Jersey led by over 4,000 volunteers. More than 200 community organizations, representing educational, religious, non-profit, civic, and business organizations join in partnership with Jersey Shore Council by chartering 301 Scouting units (packs, troops, teams, crews, posts and groups).
If you are new to Scouting, let us introduce you and your children to a world where they will build lifetime friendships, while learning leadership skills, active citizenship, personal fitness, and practical knowledge through their participation in a diverse array of activities including camping excursions, summer programs for teens and much, much more.
From Cub Scouting, with thrilling outdoor programs such camping, and other outdoor adventures – on to Boy Scouts and Venturers, with camporees, summer camps, Scouting shows, and national jamborees – families can enjoy building a lifetime of experiences unmatched by other organizations. This experience can lead to The Order of the Arrow, Scouting's national camping honor society to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout, extending their participation from teen years well on into adulthood.
Explore our website and find out more about scouting. We offer a great deal of information for parents about the benefits of scouting. And if you’re already a Scout, we have a special section for scouts where you'll find information and links you need to know.
